Wetland Regulatory Issues

The AWC consulting group assists clients with interpreting and fulfilling the requirements of Section 404 of the Federal Clean Water Act.  This includes wetland delineation services, permitting, mitigation design, construction oversight and monitoring.  AWC has been providing wetland regulatory services throughout Colorado for thirteen years and has developed strong working relationships with regulatory personnel, including the Albuquerque, Omaha and Sacramento District offices of the Army Corps of  Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Stream and Wetland Habitat Enhancement

AWC works with public and private landowners to enhance, restore and manage stream and wetland habitat resources.  The goals of these projects can be many-fold and may include wildlife benefits, water quality improvement and recreational opportunities such as fishing, bird watching, boating and hiking on trails.  AWC has designed and/or constructed nearly 54 miles of stream habitat enhancement and 400 acres of wetland enhancement.  As with all of our projects, the key to success is an integrated team of multi-disciplined personnel. 

 
Bioengineered Streambank Stabilization

Bioengineering is the use of natural materials and vegetation for erosion control and streambank stabilization.  The major pricipal of bioengineering is to stabilize eroding slopes with root structure.  Additionally, bioengineered streambank stabilization techniques create a healthy riparian corridor,  providing a host of assets recognized as important in multi-objective stream corridor and watershed management. 


 
Landscape Planning

In addition to planning and design for the creation of biologically functioning ecosystems, AWC consultants alos take into consideration land use and land cover issues related to recreationl, educational and aesthetic features, process and systems.

 
Water Resource Engineering

As part of AWC’s multidisciplinary project approach, engineering expertise plays a vital role in the evaluation and design of stream and wetland projects. Rainfall, runoff and hydraulic modeling allow AWC to understand the response of stream and wetland systems to precipitation and snowmelt events while sediment, erosion and bank stability studies provide insight into the geomorphologic make-up of a river system. Additionally, AWC conducts floodplain and drainage studies, designs and models dams and reservoirs and provides oversight for construction projects.
